The sound was soft as the female dog strolled down the sidewalk, her head high but her tail slightly tucked as it was bobbed. Her eyes moving over the trail as a bird lofted silently down in her path. With a sneer, she crouched low, paws moving gently as she grew closer until she was almost on top of the bird. With a wide grin, she leaped upon it and a tussel of feathers and fur was all you saw as she rose from her incident with her feathered prey in her mouth, limp. Slowly, the smile left her maw as she looked around and laid it down on the ground. Her eyes were sad, she had wasted a life and she wasn't even hungry. Biting her bottom lip, she picked up the bird by the wing, leading it away from the place of the murder.
Sighing, she walked to the base of a tree, her eyes half closed as she lowered down on the ground and laid the bird down in a small pile of weeds. Her head laying against the soft grass, she slowly relaxed but riddled with holes of guilt. She had killed for no reason but to be challenged. To show she was the best and that was how it was going to be. Closing her eyes into a squint, she tried to rid herself of the image of the dead bird from her minds eyes. That bird might have had children, might have had a family to return to and now never would. How come she was so cruel? How come she was so malicious when she didn't want to?
Sighing, she lowered her head down more and listened to the animals and birds around her, praying for guidance on this journey she had so desperatly wanted for so long. She was crazy, and it was apparent that no one cared what happened to her as no one cared what happened to the bird. Murderor. Blood thirsty killer. That's exactly what she was and couldn't turn back no matter which way she went. Swallowing, she opened her eyes a little and looked at the bird and then quickly shut them to keep herself from getting sick, it was depressing on how monstrous she was and nothing could change it. She had taken a life that she didn't need. Though, she was more than what other's thought.
She had successfully been given dreams from some far off identity she did not know, but she hadn't told anyone yet..

A strong-built brute raced across the path, throwing back his muzzle and releasing loud barks. With a silly grin dancing across his lips, he looked up into a tree to see a squirrel leaping onto it. He reared back and put his front paws on the trunk, wagging his tail. On the outside, he was as joyful as can be. But one could tell by his slightly dull brown eyes and his thin form that he was very hungry.
After his near hit with the semi truck, he had ran off into the deep alleyways. He was always told that the city was full of food, and it was a heaven for hounds. But the dumpsters he leapt into had been full of non-edible trash, and chewing on such items had left him sick.
When he had wandered around humans and their restaurants, he acted swiftly. As they held food and sat at benches, laughing, he had leapt up to snatch the food. But he had gotten beaten. Sometimes a small child would wander warily forward and offer a French fry to him, but other than that he got nothing.
Barking at the rodent, he toppled over and lay for a while in the shade of its branches and leaves stretched out like a verdant roof above him. Panting, he looked to his left. A femme was padding down the sidewalk, and had leapt upon a bird. He tipped his head, a light flashing inside his skull. So you had to kill to live. He himself had taken down a duck and once a sick rabbit, but other than that Cody was used to being fed chicken and other scraps of meat from the folk around his home. He had been a stray all of his life, but his rural days were a lot easier, it seemed. It was because he had fought off foxes and other would-be predators that stalked around, hungry eyes glittering in the dark, that he had gotten rewarded with food.
But the black-and-tan dog seemed to be sickened by what she had done, and she dragged the felled bird over to a bunch of weeds. Cody stalked carefully forward, tail wagging wildly. He drew back his head and let out a questioning whimper. “Are you going to eat that?” His stomach that had been empty for days clenched in eagerness.

Arena lifted her head, her ears percking up in a questioning way and her eyes opening to take him in. He was interesting, but that was not most of her problem now. Puting a slight, sincere smile across her maw, she rose to a sitting position and at him amused. Wrapping her tail around her haunches, she shrugged before grabbing the bird at her side and laying it down before him. "No, I don't want it.. you can have it..", she said, lifting and than lowering her ears as she watched him. She had murdered a bird but that didn't mean she could give it away for the hungry dogs in the area around her. Smiling wider, she nudged it with her nose toward him farther. Something to keep her mind off of what she had done. Something to keep her from feeling guilty.
The day had been long and sticky, extremely boring in just about everyway possible. Swallowing, she looked at him with a curious gaze when he asked her. Interesting. He wouldn't understand how she took life for granted, which meant if she killed for intertainment it broke the promise she had made herself to her mother, even though she had never met her. Tilting her head, she percked her ears a little, her eyes amused for the first time in a long time. "May I have your name before you gorge yourself on my winnings?" She said this in a cotent tone, not being mean or viscious and anyway. She was too mellow for that.
Her eyes quickly lifted as she shifted softly on the ground to see what was around her, including to study the fellow canine that she had never met before in her life, which wasn't very long. She felt like slush from the cars on a cold winters day that no one would want anything to do with. She wondered if he had a nice name, but her name was to if you were a pet for most of your life and had no idea what you were doing on with yourself in the middle of a park with people giving you questioning looks. "My names Arena..", she said softly, blinking curiously at him.

As she set the dead bird before him, he advanced toward it, dipping his head to sniff it before beginning to take a bite. “May I have your name before you gorge yourself on my winnings?” she was asking now. He lifted his head, tail swaying as she stated her own name. Hunger clawed at his belly like a giant cat, but he knew it would be rude not to answer.
“My name’s Cody,” he mumbled. He knew it was a human name, but then again that’s whom he had gotten it from. His mother whelped him and his two siblings—Shadow and Mahogany—in a barn, and the owners named the three helpless puppies. But other than that he was a born stray, even if he didn’t mind human companionship every once in a while.
The mutt paused for a few seconds, holding her gaze, then threw himself on the dead animal, ripping into its body with ravenous lust. He swallowed chunks of flesh and when he was finished he had blood and feathers all over his speckled muzzle. Dipping his head in embarrassment, he backed away. “I’m sorry,” he whined weakly, looking away. “I haven’t eaten since I’ve left home . . .” His brown-and-white ears pulled back tight against his skull, he hoped she didn’t think him a bad-mannered brute.

She took one step twards them, wondering if they where like her at all. She lifted her muzzle and sniffed the crisp air, the sents of the day rushing to greet her. Shaking her light grey head, she growled in contempt at the thought of making new friends. Thinking to herself about the life she might live if only she had compainions to live with. Galloping over to the two dogs she barked wildly. The female looked up first and then the male. The red heeler instantly bowed her head in a simple greeting.
"Good day, my name is Kiba. May I have your names strangers?" She knew this to be strange, bounding out of no-where and asking stray dogs names, but she wasn't a house dog so it really didn't matter to her. The male sat on his haunches and looked at her, the female looked a little confused. "I'm sorry to be rude, I didn't mean to come from no-where, really. Forgive me, please." Another bow and a whimper added this time.
The other two dogs looked amused at the sight of Kiba. She wagged her tail, slowly at first, then quickened her pace. The grass felt cool beneath her paws, she inhaled deeply, reveling at the sent. Sighing, she shook her head from a gnat that was zipping around her left red ear. As she awaited the response from the other two she thought to herself,//They look promising, maybe they will help me on my journey.\\

The white dog licked his chops and blinked at Arena when he heard swift pawsteps approaching. The male swung around and scrutinized the new dog that appeared before him. His ears perked up in interest. She was a Red Heeler, and he knew he had Blue Heeler blood in him. With a smirk, he returned the bow, then began to circle her once.
"My name's Cody," he replied affably. Wagging his tail, Cody titled his handsome head to one side. "And it's okay."
He lifted his muzzle to the sky and gave a long sigh, his liquid mahogany eyes thoughtful. "I wish I was back in the country," he murmured to himself, though he wasn't sure if the two femmes could hear it.

Kiba tilted her head to the side as the male circled her one time. She sniffed his maw and wagged her tail. Looking through her hazel eyes at the mutt she smiled and said, "The country? What is it like?" Kiba sat down next to the other female and nodded to her. Looking back at Cody she listened closely to his words about the country. His words sounded like heaven, never had she met a dog quite like him. She instantly liked him for a dear friend, maybe for something more.
As Cody spoke about the country, Kiba played it out in her mind's eye. She could only imagine what most of the things he spoke of where. Such strange and bizare creatures and houses the humans lived in. And what was a sheep? Maybe Kiba would never know, or maybe Cody would take her to see one some day. Maybe......

The ivory brute stared at her in disbelief when she inquired about the country. He wagged his tail anyway and growled, "Well, I was born there. There are a lot of fields and farms with a lot of animals. There are horses, and cows, and sheep--who look like smelly clouds with legs." He sighed. "Wild animals prefer the country more than the city, but I've driven quite a few off in my time." He lifted one paw with his chest thrust out, but returned to his normal self just a moment after his arrogant display.
"Yes, I'm not doing too well in the city," he admitted sadly, sitting down and staring at the ground. His thin form shuddered with delight as Cody barked, "I think I'll head back tomorrow. Er . . . Kiba . . . would you like to come with me?" Usually, the Blue Heeler mix was confident and at times talkative with other dogs, and he had no idea why he was shy all of a sudden. There was something about this other Heeler . . . Dipping his dappled muzzle, he realized that he had ignored the Shepherd cross.
"I'm sorry," he said to Arena, "and thanks for the bird." He gave her a friendly grin and then perked his mottled ears up at Kiba.

Kiba nearly lept for joy, this big brute, the mutt was offering to take her to the place she dreamed of. Just like the Seers having dreams of Paradise, she had dreams of far off places. She thanked her lucky stars that this handsome dog was here. She wagged her tail and stood. Looking twards the other female she bowed her head, "Good day I will be leaving for the day, and if your truley asking me, " she said as she turned back to Cody, "I would be so honorned to go with you. Where shall I meet you ?" She touched Cody's muzzle with her own in a friendly gesture, but to her it felt like so much more. There was a new inner hunger, next to finding the talked about Paradise was the hunger of a life partner. And every instinct told her Cody could fufill this need, sastain her hunger.
Kiba's stomach growled while she listened to Cody tell her where to meet her. She felt embaressed and stupid for not eating ahead of time, but she had found nothing on her morning search for a meal. She knew if she didn't eat soon her stomach wouldn't be the only thing growling.

Cody tilted his head to one side and mumbled something inaudible, looking very thoughtful. Then his warm, bark-hued eyes glittered and he replied in a joyful bark, "Meet me at the Pates Manor. I used to hang out there . . ." Memories stirred up in his mind. Shadow, his beautiful sister, used to prance in the gardens, while Mahogany--his brutish brother--stared up at the paintings in a mixture of wonder and disgust.
As Kiba touched her snout to his own, he blinked fondly at her and grinned, pulling away. In a way she was already becoming his friend, even if they had just met. His heart soared as he turned, giving her one last look over his shoulder, and began to gallop away. He was ready again to see his childhood home.

Kiba bowed her head gently to the femma and left for her home until dawn. She trugged away on the soft grass, knowing that tomarrow she would see much more grass and cows and little clouds with legs.
Before going home Kiba stopped at a bench that held a little girl with her mother. The red headed child beamed at Kiba. The red heeler hated to do it but she had to. pulling back her ears and putting on the saddest face ever, she begged.
Kiba's reward to all this torchorus painfilled begging was half a ham- sandwhich and something that tasted like a french fry but looked like a deformed and begratted cherry. The mother said not to feed stray's food, but Kiba disagreed. Shaking her head and licking the child's hand in thanks Kiba headed home, no doubt to dream of the next day's journey.
