The chalky white male snuffled around the overgrown weeds in the Pates Manor's gardens. His eyes strained to look for the ginger-speckled Red Heeler. Somewhere, birds twittered a shrill cadence, and a frightened lamb bleated to its mother. Cody's muscles rippled through his shoulders as he began to creep along the stones, and a memory came to his mind...
A six-month-old Cody barked with glee at the sight of his chestnut-hued brother, Mahogany. The two pups wrestled on the floor of the great manor, leaping up to snap at each other's ears and ripping down the curtains. A very dark femme burst into view, yelping.
"I . . . I saw a ghost, guys!" Shadow cried. Mahogany flicked his whippy tail in her face and scoffed.
"This place is deserted. There's absolutely nothing to worry about," he growled, not at all trying to comfort her.
"There's always ghosts in places where there's nobody," mumbled young Cody pointedly. Mahogany snorted at both of them and scrambled up the halls and stairs. He approached a tall door, pawing at it in frustration.
"It's locked," said Shadow. The brown male snapped at her white muzzle and looked back at it. Suddenly a chilling, transparent being flew from the wood, causing the pups to scramble over each other in fear to get away.
Now an adult, the handsome brute sat in front of the same door, looking up in complete amazement. He jumped when he heard pawsteps on the old floors . . .

Kiba sniffed the overgrown weeds. A new place always ment new smells. She snorted when a bee came at her for disturbing its job. Kiba quickly trotted along and found a hole to squeazed through.
Once inside, she looked around. Old paintings and dust covered the walls. Moldy sents waffed through her nostrils from the beat-down furniture. Stepping silently so as not to disturb what might live here, Kiba whispered as softly as she could, "Cody... Cody are you here?".She knew he was because she could smell him, but his trail ventured further into the house and she didn't wish to go that far.
She had to go on, he wasn't coming to her so she had to come to him. Slinking along the damp wall. I sent chills down her spin. She stopped. Stairs had risin before her, and she didn't know if she could go on. Placing a sinlge red stained paw on the first step she whinced at the groaning sound it made. She had to do this! Kiba shook her head and raced up the stairs nolonger caring who heard her or what happened as long as she was off the stairs. If she hadn't slowed down she would have smaked right into Cody. Kiba nearly yelped in surprise.
"Cody! Oh I'm so glad your here." She instantly nuzzled his maw with her own, not caring what he thought. She didn't scare easy but rotting homes brought out her insticnts ten-fold.

The brute's mottled brown ears perked up at the creaking, and he was relieved to see the ginger form of Kiba emerge into view. He smiled kindly at her, but as she stretched her neck out to nuzzle him, he blinked in surprise. However, involuntarily, his tail began to beat at the air in happiness.
Cody lowered his mahogany gaze and murmured, "Me too." He chuckled good-naturedly and leapt down the stairs, ignoring the rattling and groaning coming from them. With a thud he sprawled out on the floor, picking himself back up again with an unclear mumble.
This was characterisitic of the male. He was a complete goofball, and he had hardly any shame. His wagging tail now a blur, he called over his shoulder. "Sorry; I can tell you don't much like this place, but do you think that we could live in the gardens?" He smirked at her and sat back, tipping his head to one side.

She didn't understand. She really liked him, but were her ears decieving her? She wasn't sure if he really ment being mates by that. She male partsed her head to the left and made a confused look on her face.
"Live in the gardens? By what do you mean?" She understood now. He wanted to live with her, to be her mate, her love. She nearly copyed him and leapt off the second floor onto the main level and lick his muzzle in complete happiness. But being female, she reasoned the after effects of the jump.
"Cody, do you mean that you want me to stay with you? Forever?"She hoped so. She wanted that more than to see the country. She prayed to any god that existed,

Cody didn't understand why she looked so confused. His ears pulled back a little and he gave a tiny frown. "I . . . I mean we could . . ." His voice faltered and he looked away for a moment. He really liked Kiba already, but for some reason he was confused, as she was.
As the Red Heeler leapt down the stairs and licked his muzzle, he flinched away but met her gaze calmly. "Cody, do you mean that you want me to stay with you? Forever?" she was asking him.
For a moment a frown spread across his dappled gray muzzle. He regarded the question very carefully, and replied in a low voice, "It depends on what you mean. Since we'll be touring the country, and we're friends, we will be together." He paused and took a deep breath. He continued uncomfortably, "But if you're asking if we're going to be mates . . . we just met, Kiba." His brown eyes began to sparkle kindly. "Maybe someday," he added in a very soft whisper.
With a playful growl he pushed his paw against her shoulder and sprang away, wagging his tail, daring her to chase after him. It was like an apology in case he had hurt her feelings. And, anyway, Cody missed having company.

Nearly howled with saddness. Her hormones and what Cody had said were clashing. She didn't know which one was what anymore. And when Cody said friends she nearly collapsed with pain, but he had said something else. "Maybe someday"
That was her ticket. She only had to wait and he would agree to love her forever! Her life was gaining meaning by the moment. She nearly snapped with the excitment. Cody pushed playfully against her shoulder and leapt away. She figured he was playing with her, so she did so aswell.
Running after him through the hole she came in, she pounced, landing on his back. Getting up and snorting, acting dominant while still being playfull, she gaped. The gardens were beautiful, which is where they had ended up.
"Oh Cody, we should live here, its wonderful. The pups..." She trailed off, not knowing how the matter of pups came into her words let alone her mind. "I'm sorry, I don't know why I said that... it is a pretty area," She was trying to get the conversation of the matter of her really liking Cody but it didn't seem to be working. Would she ever stop this maddness?

The white Heeler mix looked over his shoulder sadly at Kiba. She seemed extremely troubled by his reply, but common sense backed up his words. They had just met, so becoming mates was out of the question. But . . . Kiba really seemed to like him, and we was beginning to like her a lot, too. He nodded inwardly, knowing that for now they would just be friends.
. . . for now? Well, even if we aren't mates, we could . . . start a gang! He remembered that his brother, Mahogany, had lived in a scruffy gang in the country. It was useful if you had so many hounds on your side. . . .
"Oooff!"
His thoughts were interrupted by the ginger femme as she pounced on his back; she was apparently awaken from her sorrow by his last two words. He rolled away, but she had stood, head high but looking playful. He gave her a friendly lick on the shoulder.
Oh Cody, we should live here, its wonderful. The pups..." she began to say, but Kiba had quickly corrected herself. "I'm sorry, I don't know why I said that... it is a pretty area."
Cody frowned for a moment but then nodded in understanding. "It is beautiful," he murmured, flicking his brown eyes toward her for a split second before scanning the gardens. He smiled. "We could live here though." The mutt winked at her and then padded around, nose in the air. "Huh, perhaps we could start a gang here. You could lead, of course" -- he hesitated, unsure of why he gave her complete leadership -- "and I could be second-in-command. We could get other dogs to join us. Hunt as a gang -- or a pack if you wish -- and survive. And . . . perhaps next spring, there could be puppies to look after." His last words didn't exactly mean his and Kiba's pups, but all of the females' that had joined. He knew that it was a possibility that he would truely end up loving the Heeler that stood beside him.

Kiba wagged her tail. This was a great idea! A gang! And her as the leader? It sounded to good to be true, but Cody had said those words. She nearly chased her own tail in excitment! And he said pups! Was he thinking about what they coul dhave or maybe the other dogs that might join? Oh it didn't matter to her anymore! She loved pups and would treat any like her own.
"Cody, if we do start a gang... what shall it be called? I have no name suggestions.... I wasn't even expecting this, oh but its a wonderful idea!" She jumped, not once and not twice, but three times in a tight little circle. She was so happy, and not to metion hyper.
She couldn't wait to go running through the fields and chasing clouds with legs. And then to return with her best friend to her new home! And then late at night start the plans of a gang! Oh how wonderful it all sounded to her! Addrenaline rused through her like wind through the blades of grass. She was ready.

Kiba looked very cheerful, and she asked about the name. As he was thinking, she leapt up thrice. He laughed heartily. “Well,” he chuckled, “I’m glad you think so. You’d probably be a much better leader than I.” He blinked and then laughed again, shaking his head. “I’m not very responsible. I’m like a pup myself.” With this he wagged his tail very heard, catching it out of the corner of his eye. Swinging around, he made a lunge for it, tripping into some bushes with the force. When he lifted his head, he was in an awkward position, half-sitting and half-laying, with the tip of his furry tail in his jaws. He growled through his fur and then lowered his head, sheepish.
“Huh . . . I haven’t really give that much thought,” he muttered, pulling himself out of the plants and shaking his coat. “What about . . . Kiwanja? But regardless of the name, we’ll need members,” he growled, looking up at the beautiful sky. A baby bird twittered somewhere nearby. It was an injured one, lying motionlessly on the stony ground. He shot Kiba a helpless look and snuck forward, flipping it over with his strong snout. It tumbled, its cries becoming louder and shriller. “Your pain will end soon,” he barked, lunging forward it and sweeping it up in his jaws. It went limp as he bit down. Cody sighed, pushing it toward his friend after taking a small bite.

Kiba liked Kiwanja. is sounded so foreign! And she nodded when Cody said they needed members. Thats what they could do before their trip to see walking clouds (ooc: I just can't stop talking about them lol!/ooc) and the cows! Kiba barked lightly to herself as if in reply to her own thoughts.
Cody snuck off and came back with a dead baby bird. Kiba didn't understand. Was the bird hurt and he helped it by killing it? Or was he just bored? (ooc:a little bit of both I thinks/ooc) It didn't matter. She wasn't going to eat a bird and never would! To many feathers for her liking.
Kiba paced back and forth, thinking of any dog she knew that was worthy of being in the gang. She didn't know any dogs besides Cody and that one fae they had met in the park. And she didn't even know her! Think! She had to think!

Cody eyed Kiba with some amusement as she began to pace, looking thoughtful. He chuckled, not unkindly, and then looked to the untouched bird. He sighed and then began to eat it slowly, forcing the tender flesh down. When he lifted his head again, he was gagging a little, lolling his feather-covered tongue and swiping across his muzzle. Spitting the small plumes out and laughing lightly, he came over to the Red Heeler’s side. “I don’t know what to do, either,” he commented quickly. It was obvious what she was thinking about. He was glad that she had agreed with the name—he thought it up in a minute and had heard it from a coy-dog stalking around the farm—but the problem of members still needed to be settled.
He lifted his voice in a scratchy, dog-like howl that started out with a few rapid, low barks. He stared at his friend with an explanation. “Well, if they know that a gang lives here, they might as well come and perhaps join. . . . I’m not exactly comfortable walking around and asking, ‘Will you join Kiwanja?’ Ha, they’ll prob’ly just stare dumbly at me and ask, ‘What in Sirius’s name is Kiwanja?’ and it’ll make me look like a complete fool. If that’s even possible!”

Kiba looked at Cody in a slightly confused way. He had lifted his head and started to howl but at first it didn't sound like a howl at all, more like rapid barks. When he explained wha he was doing Kiba relaxed a bit. When he did say, "and it'll make me look like a complete fool. If that's even possible!" the red heeler fae laughed. It wasn't possible, Cody was a complete fool, but she loved him for it. As a friend, and like he said one day, a partner.
Keeping her thoughts to herself Kiba simply nodded twards Cody. She wondered if she slowly became the quiet type, if Cody would notice... it was worth a shot. She, who loved to speak because she was always told she had a beautiful voice, would speak no more. A mute she would become!

Cody’s ears perked up as she laughed, and he frowned, bemused. “What? What’s so funny?” he asked, wagging his tail so hard that his rump wriggled.
|| He really does that at home—it’s so cute! ||
The mutt then sighed and eyed her carefully. She made no comment but he didn’t mind.
He began to trot around the gardens, poking his nose into the bushes and staring delightedly at the beautiful flowers. The place was very overgrown, but that way it just spread its beauty. His live was slowly changing back . . . instead of rough and terrible, it was back to normal. Simple, familiar, with new friends! He grinned contentedly and looked over at Kiba. “Heh, this place really is wonderful. But . . . I’m starting to miss the fields. C’mon, Kiba! I’ll show you around. This is my turf now!” Back in his element, the herding dog cross began to race away from the manor, every once in a while looking over his shoulder to see if his dear friend was falling behind.

Kiba kept the pace but only just. She haddn't answered him before, she didn't want him to wonder anymore. Her breed was fast so could have easily beat him. But Silent types don't do that. Even when she wanted to go "Haha Im just kidding watch this!" and zoom past him she knew she couldn't.
/\Ooc: I don't know... but the thing your doggie does is the same thing my cat does! lol my baby is so wierd he acts like a dog, runs like a monkey, and eats like a pib.. he only looks like a cat! Christian.. *sigh* I wonder where he is? :end:Ooc/\(hope i don't get into trouble for slaking off on posting!)
